Something Meaningful

I wanted to focus this contest entree photo on #style.

As much as I love DIY projects, I was really up for the challenge: to create a well thought out styled outfit that had a meaningful concept behind it. This outfit is very special because everything that I’m wearing was found secondhand. To me, that is one of the greatest challenges: looking polished with an affordable price. I don’t come from the most fortunate family so the only places I can afford to shop at are thrift shops, and even then some of those stores are becoming overpriced and well over my shopping budget. In fact, I spent the entire day searching for some items for this specific look. I had traveled to 3 different thrift stores to find the perfect vintage 501’s, which were honestly 5 sizes too big!! (I’m size 29 and they were 34) Even though there was only one 501 available I had purchased them because I wanted an obstacle, and to tailor them in myself. Though this photo is technically a DIY creation, I’m trying to focus solely on my style. My concept is to focus this look on the Levi’s brand while only adding nameless brands to my outfit. I wanted to keep the color story very “matched”, while wearing a camouflage shirt and matching tapers. The rest of my outfit is all black with a little hint of denim under my jacket. I wanted to photograph this look riding my vintage bike, which had been handed down to me from my great grandmother. Sometimes the older things are, the more meaning they have behind them, and most of all, an even greater value that comes from memories.
